Adults have opportunities to deepen their faith through a weekly Sunday morning class, small group studies, and evening/after church events presentations and discussions.
The adult Sunday School class meets each Sunday at 9:30. The class uses the PC(USA) curriculum “Follow Me” which centers on 36 practices of Jesus’ way of life. The class helps participants learn how to put one’s faith into practice in today’s complex world. This year’s topics include: honoring God’s diversity, practicing generosity, caring for creation, walking humbly, loving God, neighbor, and enemy, forgiving, and practicing justice.
First Presbyterian Church partners with Immanuel Presbyterian Church to offer a monthly Bible study. This year’s group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 10:30 am rotating between the two churches. The group is using the Presbyterian Women’s Bible Study called “Let Justice Roll Down: God’s Call for Neighbor and All Creation.” The group is always open to change the time if there are women who cannot participate during the day.
The Christian Education and Mission teams work together to offer short term evening discussion groups or events after Sunday worship on pertinent issues of our faith. We choose topics guided by our congregation’s participation in Matthew 25 Initiative focusing on its three core pillars
“Understanding our Past, Growing into the Future: Presbyterians Untangling Colonialism in Alaska”
“Dangers of Christian Nationalism”
